Your brand is your identity. Whether you're a startup or an established business, protecting your trademark ensures you're not only recognized—but legally protected. Here’s how to do it right in India.
Step 1: Conduct a Trademark Search
Before applying, check if a similar mark exists using the IP India portal. A quick search can prevent costly disputes later.
Step 2: Choose the Right Class
Trademarks are registered under 45 different classes (based on goods/services). Filing under the wrong class means your protection may not apply where it matters most.
Step 3: File the Trademark Application
Apply through the official portal with details like logo, name, usage, class, and applicant identity. You’ll receive an acknowledgment and a TM number.
Step 4: Respond to Objections (If Any)
If the registry raises objections or a third party opposes your application, you must file a legal response within the time limit. A lawyer can help strengthen your case.
Step 5: Final Registration
Once cleared, your trademark is published in the Trademark Journal and registered for 10 years (renewable).
Why Legal Help Matters
DIY filings often result in rejections or weak protection. I help businesses file, defend, and enforce trademarks that hold up in court and deter infringement.
